$CLOUT Poetry - For You, Mother

ramblingrose

A poem for all who we call mother.

alternate text

Mother is a word that doesn’t need
Earthly bounds to hold it down
It embodies more than bodies
It is a verb, not just a noun

If a mother’s love could describe itself in words
It would humbly decline
Choosing to smile in silence
Letting our merit brightly shine

You will always be my mind flower
Showing petals, not a face
Presenting your life’s greatest sacrifice
That no other can replace

Not blood, nor age nor even gender
Defines our link to one another
So I will picture you like a pink daylily
Not the fleshy form of mother

I am your ambassador
Locked in this expanse of time
A ripple in the wave
Of our history’s paradigm

This is for you, mother
Whoever you may be
However which way you are pictured
Without you, I wouldn’t be me.
