The Chiles Center sits on the beautiful University of Portland campus. It’s really not that far from the rest of the metro area, yet somehow feels like it’s in another state. We squished into my friend Matt’s lemon yellow Audi (“no heat, no problem!”) and made the drive. The arena was packed, with bodies and smoke everywhere.

Les Claypool is as odd in real life as he seems. The Pixies played a solid set. Jane’s Addiction absolutely tore the roof off the place. It was a helluva show.

Next time I was there was for a very staid graduation ceremony.
